Deal
“One of England’s best places to live… are you sure?”
Stayed in an unusual little cottage down a tiny little alleyway.
Nice to walk along from front and managed to get in a see Deal castle which was very interesting.
Deal is a historic coastal town in Kent, England, situated on the Strait of Dover where the North Sea meets the English Channel. Its strategic location has played a pivotal role in its history, having served as a major port and naval base for centuries.
Deal's maritime heritage is evident in its landmarks. Deal Castle, one of Henry VIII's grand coastal fortresses, stands as a testament to the town's defensive importance. Nearby, Walmer Castle, the official residence of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, offers a glimpse into the region's historical administration.
Beyond its fortifications, Deal boasts a charming seafront with sandy beaches, a pier, and a variety of shops and restaurants. The town's history is intertwined with smuggling, a period explored in depth at the Deal Smuggling Museum.
Today, Deal offers a blend of history and modern-day appeal. Visitors can explore its historic streets and admire its architectural heritage, while also enjoying outdoor activities such as walking, cycling, and watersports.
