A short weekend away to Cola’s dream location of Burgh Island.
The hotel was so exclusive (expensive) that we were only there one night. We stayed in a local holiday home for two nights before in Kingsbridge which had wonderful views of the estuary and was only 30mins away from the Island.

The accommodation was stunning. The only issues were the Balcony had been temporarily replaced and the canopy shade was broken.
Rooster met the owner Nick Smith, it happened that Nick was in a similar business who specialised in LED digital billboards (Elonex). Nick left a drink for us behind the bar which ended put to be £50 off our meal. How generous.
The first night we had a little too many drinks Pink Gin, Champagne and white wine. It was lovely but we never learn.
On the second night we ate in the Crab Shell, but it was expensive and not great…. But at least it was cheaper due to Nick’s gift.
After two nights we moved on to the ‘once in a lifetime’ stay on the Island.
Going down a big hill we saw the hotel and island appearing from the horizon. After parking up in the private car park we were met by Richard the driver, we plugged in to get charged up and Richard drove us across the sand dunes to the island.
We were welcomed by Simon the concierge and a couple of glasses of Tattinger who was excellent.
We had a lunch in the in the Pilchard Inn (actually a cafe) on the island but not in the hotel grounds and it was terrible, what a mistake, but quickly back into the hotel for luxury.
We eventually got into the Tony and B room. Wow wow wow.
Black tile dinner with fine dining. Again we were treated like Royalty and every one was togged up.
Next morning a lovely breakfast before heading home. Both agreed the once in a lifetime stay would not be the last….
Oh yes, the Island is actually up for sale, a snip at £15M.
