Day 1
Early start to get to Heathrow for our plane to Miami. It’s going to be a long day. But with a wonderful travel mate
Change over at Miami went pretty smoothly although still a big queue at security
Eventually arrived at the hotel after a 22hour journey, but one case is missing and no idea where it is – we were those people at the end watching and empt carousel.
Day 2
Hotel is quaint – paid $7 for a breakfast but it wasn’t all that. We bumped into Margarette & Sandra and introduced ourselves
We wandered into the local market in the morning and Rooster bought a couple of shirts as we don’t have any confidence the missing case will be found.
After a little break reading kindles outside the room Karl passed us and introduced himself.
We had another wander and walked to the local square which was bustling with locals. We Found a little bar LAUREL BISTRO and had an amazing taco starter – all sorts on it with a little kick
Early evening we met the rest of the group – it was a little awkward. Will we get on? only time will tell…
We went for a meal together in the evening where we started to find out a little more about each other. Our tour guide Damaris also said we had a long day planned travelling and we were to be leaving at 3:30am (madness) tomorrow.
No news on the bag
Day 3
Still no bag but it now seems to have been located. When will we get it is the big question??
We have a long drive today so an early start and I mean early – 3:30am OUCH as Dudders used to say, there’s only one 3:30 in the day and it ain’t in the “am”
Met the rest of the group last night and seems a good bunch. Mostly Canadians.
Halfway through the journey we had a message that they had found our bag and it was in Miami.
Damaris suggest skipping the next hotel and get it delivered to Flores where will be staying for two nights
A long 11 hour drive finally got to out first hotel – a bit more relaxing. Think we are going to get eaten to death by mossies
ENJOY HOTEL
Stayed here as part of a G Adventures tour. The location is great for the ferry but that’s probably about it.
The hotel steps up to the reception area are tired. Our room looked out on to a building site. With no nets in the room we had to keep the curtains shut because someone was working in the building site and could look in.
There are rules plastered all over the place. The one that really annoyed me was the rule that said there would be a fine if the hand towel was used as a shower mat. Might have been useful to have provided a shower mat so that we didn’t have to risk breaking our necks on a wet tiled floor!!! The sheets on the bed looked like they had been thrown on so the bare mattress was easily exposed.
Loved the island of Caye Caulker but didn’t love this hotel.
TULUM
Thought Tulum was great to visit, the beach and the sea as a backdrop are just amazing, it’s paradise.
Unfortunately we weren’t overly impressed with the ticketing. To start with you pay at one counter and get a wrist band. Then you walk towards the ruins and have to pay again! In addition to this they want to charge extra if you have a Go Pro camera. My husband said it wasn’t a Go Pro at which point it became an “action camera” so an extra charge so we just put it away.
They have people that are dressed up that want to pose for photos with you at a fee. I don’t like seeing monkeys exploited in this way.
HOTEL NAUTILUS
The food was amazing, really tasty. We sat in the outside area, loved the atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and polite. Would definitely recommend.
