CHRISTCHURCH ~ Founded in the 7th century at the confluence of the rivers Avon and Stour which flow into Christchurch Harbour, the town was originally named Twynham but became known as Christchurch following the construction of the priory in 1094. The town was fortified in the 9th century. Further defences were added in the 12th century with the construction of a castle, which was destroyed during the English Civil War by the Parliamentarian Army. During the 18th and 19th centuries, smuggling flourished and became one of the town’s most lucrative industries.

FRIDAY ~ Left at a reasonable hour in the torrential rain – about 10am and picked up JMAN on the way as he wanted to do some work in the back. After a 3 hour drive, we met with Ambrose and Ads for the first New Forrest Walk – it was dry and warm. We did the DEERLAP LOOP which was a gentle 2.7 mile walk, but it was very boggy – Ambrose found the view weird water pocket.. Arriving at the property, it was beautiful, everything we expected and more. An evening of Lasagne, Beenie and booze.
SATURDAY ~
The Red Sun – The food was amazing, really tasty. We sat in the outside area, loved the atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and polite. Would definitely recommend.
SUNDAY ~
MONDAY ~ We headed into Burley for ‘another’ small 3mile walk. Ambrose bumped into someone she knew….how strange. A meal in THE BURLEY INN before heading home. Shattered, but a good weekend.
