Billingshurst

"A sweet little mystery ~ WET WET WET…."

Let’s celebrate the new year with Anna and the girls (and Noddy the Tortoise). Also, did we see it was wet. A new year getaway on a farm. The weather made a little housebound but the place was lovely, just wished it was wasn’t raining.

Billingshurst is a substantial village located within the Low Weald region of West Sussex, England. Characterized by its linear layout, it extends along the historic Stane Street, the Roman road that once connected London to Chichester. This positioning has played a significant role in the village’s development over time.

Historically, Billingshurst has Anglo-Saxon origins, with its name suggesting a settlement tied to “Billa’s people.” The village’s history is evident in its older structures, including parts of St. Mary’s Parish Church, which date back to the Norman period. Today, Billingshurst balances its historical charm with modern amenities. It boasts a range of local shops and facilities, and maintains good transport links, including a mainline railway station providing access to London.

The village and its surrounding area offer a blend of rural landscapes and community life. Local events, such as the Billingshurst Show and Carnival, contribute to the village’s vibrant atmosphere. Billingshurst represents a traditional English village that has adapted to modern times while preserving its historical roots

Just a tad wet, and poor old Titters was struggling with her knees so didn’t get a chance to get out much.  Daisy ‘Duke’ was a little braver than normal, maybe she is actually a sheep dog, or perhaps a dog which looks like a sheep.  We even took noddy the tortoise with us who loved the heated floor
