HOTEL ALAY ~ Hotel

Really good stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Alay. We had a delayed flight so arrived early evening on 28 December but the receptionist was really pleasant and friendly.

We had a room on the 12th floor with a great sea view as well as the mountain, we absolutely loved the balcony and the wonderful views.

I had read other reviews about there not being tea or coffee making facilities in the room, this is easily rectified by taking a travel kettle and your own coffee so not a problem for us.

The room and bathroom were immaculate and very clean. The walk in shower was great. I know that some reviewers have complained about the building works. This didn’t affect us because of where we were although I could hear noise if I went into the bathroom, also because it was NY they didn’t start working until 2 January

Breakfast was very good, a really good choice of food to suit everyone. The location of the hotel is also very good, just yards away from the marina with a never ending choice of different restaurants. I would absolutely go back to the Alay and would recommend it.

Mamma Leone ~ Restaurant

Had to pay by cash but not told before we sat down!

Not the cheapest place to eat and slightly more expensive than the mariner.

Food was ok but at the end asked to pay over €60 in cash. We were not told before we sat down it was cash only and it was lucky we had enough cash on us. We pay by card using our phones so didn’t have the card with us so getting cash out isn’t an option.

Cinnamon Club ~ Restaurant

Good

Popped in for a curry, food was nice but prices are on a par with home so there are cheaper places to eat. Service was good, setting nice.

La Caleta Beach Club ~ Restaurant

Fabulous

After a week of eating in really good restaurants this stands out as being one of the best. We were served by Seraphim who was super friendly. The gambas pil pil was the best I had all week. The setting on the beach was to die for. The complimentary olives and drink after the meal were nice touches.

Restaurante Ole ~ Restaurant

Didn’t feel authentic

We stopped here for tapas as it seemed to be a good deal. Whilst the tapas was ok some of it didn’t seem to be authentic. For example the potatas bravas was roast potatoes with a chilli sauce on top which was like a spicy mayo, nice but not what we expected.

Teleferico Benalmadena ~ Cable Car

We got there at 10.45 just before the opening at 11am and I’m so glad we did, the queues to get tickets started to get really long.

However they didn’t start boarding passengers until 11.30 as the bins and drinks etc were being sent up and the staff. This could have been better organised.

We walked to the top which was steep in places but hand rails throughout so not a problem. The views from the top were amazing.

Maracas ~ Beach Bar

Nice views

We stopped here for a drink after taking a long walk along the coast. Was pretty busy but got a table outside on the beach. Service was good.

Gloria Bendita ~ Restaurant

Lovely setting

Really loved the setting, right on the beach was so relaxing. The service was a bit slow but we didn’t mind we are on holiday and not in a rush. Food was tasty and came out quickly once we had ordered.
