17th May ~ 19th May 2024

Centre Parcs

“And then… the Cola clan getaway…”

A very quick sunny getaway and FreFre’s first holiday to Centre Parks.  A swim, Pool, Bowling, lots of food and a few BEEERS….. Sorted….

3rd May ~ 6th May 2024

Christchurch

“The Rooster clan on tour…”

After a very wet start to the year we were lucky with a break in the miserable weather. Lots of walking, a little bit of drinking and some good food,  a nice weekend was had by all.

20th Jan ~ 4th Feb 2024

Central America

“From West to East with Canadians, Finnish & Swiss. A mixed bunch…”

Guatemala, Belize, Mexico.  What a fabulous break, a rocky start with a lost case.  We crossed Central America from West to East with a good bunch of people.  For Rooster Cayer Caulker was the best, a true chill out zone.

2023 ADVENTURES

27th Dec ~ 2nd Jan 2023

Cornwall

“We just love this place. Where is the nearest estate agent???”

Lovely little cottage overlooking Torpoint.  Some dramatic views, shame about the weather.  Next year we will have to find somewhere warmer.

Going back to the place where we had our honeymoon was fantastic but muddy and wet.

26th Aug ~ 8th Sept 2023

Southern Italy

“We hope that Volcano doesn’t erupt…”

A four place tour of Southern Italy (Capri was our favourite) ~ Amalfi, Sorrento, Capri, Naples

Our original honeymoon to Amalfi was cancelled twice due to Covid.  It is has been on our wish list, so have bit the bullet and booked in for late 2023

26th May to 29th May 2023

Burgh Island

“Shaken and not stirred Mr Rooster…”

We started with a night at Kingbridge which was a beautiful little place followed by a fabulous night on Burgh Island.  A big tick for Cola.

Wandering around the island we felt a million dollars.  With an evening black tie meal it was sublime.

7th Apr to 10th Apr 2023

Rome

“Gladiators ready….”

A quick Easter weekend away with Cola’s kids.  As always a busy busy schedule and after 4 days, 68,884 steps and over 29 miles we did not have to worry how much pasta we ate

Visited the Colosseum, the Vatican plus plus.  A great break and met the ‘O’ for the first time.

4th Feb ~ 19th Feb 2023

Kenya

“Today we are hunting Elephants - not…”

Trailblazers big ticket holiday.  Starting with a big game safari (hunting with a camera rather than a rifle) in Nairobi.  The Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru and Amboseli reserves.

We finished with a few days on the Beach near Mombasa to recharge.  We’re even fitting in a sneaky Hot Air Balloon flight

2022 ADVENTURES

27th Dec ~ 2nd Jan 2022

Billingshurst

“A sweet little mystery ~ WET WET WET….”

Let’s celebrate the new year with Anna and the girls (and Noddy the Tortoise). Also, did we see it was wet.

A new year getaway on a farm. The weather made a little housebound but the place was lovely, just wished it was wasn’t raining.

26th Nov ~ 29th Nov 2022

Morocco

“Exciting, rural and as real as it gets…”

We had a little gap towards the back end of the year, and a little holiday budget left so Cola found this little gem.  An 8 bedroom Riad hotel in the Atlas Mountains.

We screwed up thinking it would be hoy.  Boy we were wrong, when the sun went down it was low single figure temperatures.  Brrrrrrr

7th Sep ~ 14th Sep 2022

The Balkans

“One week, three countries and a Barry…”

A great chance to see the different cultures and scenery of Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Montenegro

First holiday venture with Newmarket holidays.  As the youngest out of the group we felt that the holiday company was aimed for a more ‘mature’ clientele.
The group was also larger at about 25 than we were used to but maybe we have been spoiled.
The guide ‘Dani’ was very friendly and knowledgably.  Anthony the driver also did a fantastic job including seemingly bribing the border security with bottles of water to speed us through to Montenegro.

26th Aug ~ 29th Aug 2022

Peacehaven

“Kiss me quick and squeeze me hard, again…”

Rooster was unwell during the break built we still managed to make the most of it.  Once of the bests hosts who couldn’t do enough for us.  Lovely little conservatory and a triangular plot with great views.

29th Jul ~ 31st Jul 2022

Dungeness

“Post apocalyptic and beautifully desolate…”

We weren’t sure about this place, very isolated and barren.

The accommodation was nice but the new owners were not overly friendly.  Did get a chance to travel on the Hythe mini railway – cute.

2nd Jun ~ 5th Jun 2022

Paris

“A weekend in the city of love…”

The first trip in the new EV, so a baptism of fire.  But all good and quite exciting really.

From the moment we arrived, it was go go go.  Ghost walk, Seine river trip, Versailles, the catacombs and the fabulous Moulin Rouge.  We really could not have fitted in anything else.

29th Apr ~ 2nd May 2022

Deal

“One of England’s best places to live… are you sure?”

Stayed in an unusual little cottage down a tiny little alleyway.

Nice to walk along from front and managed to get in a see Deal castle which was very interesting.

15th Apr ~ 18th Apr 2022

Iceland

“Brrrrrr.. Are we penguins????”

Cola had always wanted to take me to Iceland as the scenery is stunning.  The weather started a little wet, but we made the most of it.

A short visit, but we packed a lot on.

STOP PRESS 20 November 2024 the volcano has been erupting and Lava has been flowing from a fissure in the ground between Stóra-Scógfell and Sýlingarfell, northeast of the town of Grindavík. The lava has reached the blue lagoon car park.

18th Mar ~ 20th Mar 2022

Littlehampton

“Kiss me quick and squeeze me hard…”

A beautiful AirB&B Annex to a house.  Lovely to get away and go for long walks along the front looking for hag stones

Took a long walk along the front all the way through to Bultins in Bognor.  Not sure we fancy that.

26th Jan ~ 10th Feb 2022

Costa Rica

“Looking for sloths, but they’re so quick”

A big ticket break, this was a two week group touring holiday.

A TUI holiday touring holiday.  We were met at the airport by Pablo and taken to the van where Michael the driver was sitting.   It was then we realised we were the only ones on the tour, maybe so soon after Covid.

We had a two week tour with our personal guide and driver…. Fabulous…. Mucho Gaucho Costa Rica

Some amazing flora and fauna, amazing scenery and a touch of rainforest.

2021 ADVENTURES

27th Dec 2021 ~ 3rd Jan 2022

Bovisand Bay

“Happy New Year everyone…”

Stunning scenery from the accommodation overlooking the rugged southern bays.  Very blowy, but you can’t beat New Year’s Day watching surfers and NYD swimmers

The accommodation was basic but perfect for what we needed.

11th Dec ~14th Dec 2021

Pevensey Bay

“Everywhere… Girls girls girls….”

A break with the MiL, Daisy and Ellie.  The house was directly on the beach and although December the weather was good for us.

But it was nice to get away and gave MiL a different scenery after Covid.

30th Oct ~ 2nd Nov 2021

Barnstaple

“A folly good time…”

A bit of a long way to go but what a strange but nice play to stay.  We were truly the king and queen for the weekend.

Whilst we were there we hadn’t really planned anything, but we drove to Clovelly which seems like time had been frozen from 100 years ago.

30th Aug ~ 20th Sep 2021

South France

“Road trip with a bit of Ooh La La ….”

Our honeymoon to the Amalfi Coast was cancelled due to Covid for the second time in two years – this time only a week before we were supposed to go.

We had expected this and was already planning an alternative ‘road trip’ not he South of France. Rooster just loves a foreign driving adventure.

27th Aug ~ 30th Aug 2021

The New Forest

“It’s England Cola, but not as we know it…”

A long weekend to the New Forest in a beautiful little cottage.

Rooster just loves this place, it is back to nature with roaming horses and wildlife all around.  Hiking, BBQ’s, Scrumpy and a few glasses of wine.  It does not get much better.

14th Aug ~ 15th Aug 2021

Rye

“Smugglers beware ~ the haunted hotel”

A real classic hotel in this lovely village.  We could have turned the clock back 200 years

Alas we saw no ghosts, but had a fantastic meal and a few drinks.  We would definitely like to visit again.

25th Jun ~ 4th Jul 2021

Scotland

"Hunting for Haggis in the Highlands...”

What amazing scenery.  Why have we never been to Scotland before?

Such a great holiday in a bothy on the banks of Loch Ness.  We have no internet, no signal, no TV – Completely off grid for a week.  BLISSSSS

19th Jun ~ 20th Jun 2021

Leeds castle

“Jousting time - where's Henry....”

Cola always wanted to take Rooster to stay at Leeds Castle

Had a wonderful time in a beautiful cottage with an after hours freedom on the site, just not allowed to go into the castle (as we found out)

28th May ~ 4th Jun 2021

Yorkshire

“Why not… But maybe Rooster needs a flat cap…”

We’re not allowed to go abroad, so UK adventure time.

Cola scored a goal again, two beautiful contrasting accommodations, some hiking, some culture and a few glasses of wine.  PERFECT

2020 ADVENTURES - a year of lockdown & marriage

11th Sep ~ 18th Sep 2020

South Cornwall

“Our secret honeymoon haven of delight…”

Cola found this amazing place – The Dell converted fishing cottage.  It was a little Spenny, but well, it was our honeymoon.

We were not disappointed, beautiful, secluded and the weather was FANTASTIC.  Such a good omen for the future.

7th Aug ~ 8th Aug 2020

Port Lympne

“Wedding night in a shed, really!!!!!”

No exotic honeymoon for ua, but a night glamping at Port Lympne zoo.

The ‘shed’ was like a Japanese torture hotbox, but at least we had use of the gold cart outside normal opening hours.

7th Feb ~ 22nd Feb 2020

Thailand

“The quiet before the storm….”

The last holiday before the world was about to change.  Throughout the break we watch the first effects of Covid which exploded shortly after we came back.

Lots of adventures and lots of temples.  We travelled the whole country of Thailand with a relaxing conclusion in Phuket.  We watched the news closely as Covid 19 started to take hold of the world.

2019 ADVENTURES - Engagement year

16th Aug ~ 20th Aug 2019

Normandy

“One marriage, a short break but no funerals ….”

Roosters old work colleague Paul Morhen was getting married to Natalie.  They decided to marry at the Chateau se Carsix in Normandy and we were invited to celebrate with them.

We took the SLK with the top down so travelled in style for a couple of days at the Chateau, starting with a BBQ, the wedding day was a little wet but managed to get a break for an outdoor ceremony.

15th Jun ~ 16th Jun 2019

Broadstairs

“Rooster is 50, #oldbaldyman”

After a recommendation Rooster booked a night away to celebrate his 50th.  Good to get away for a romantic break.

A real quirky place, but for Rooster the highlight was Ben the dog.

3rd Jun ~ 7th Jun 2019

Bulgaria

“No… I am Spartacus….”

A cheapish holiday to Bulgaria.  It wasn’t our favourite, but nice to get some sun

But we had a couple of nice meals out away from the All Inclusive hoards.  We also had a nice day trip to Old town and a cheeky Catamaran cruise.

10th Feb ~ 29th Feb 2019

The Maldives

“Para Para Paradise....”

Both Cola and Rooster always had the Maldives on the bucket list.  Cola had a chance in a “previous life” but it was cancelled so a first for both. Our dream holiday, at long last

Cola upgraded to premium which gave us a huge overwater suite and a private pool and dining area.  Fabulous

2018 ADVENTURES

5th Oct ~ 7th Oct 2018

Dublin

"Think that Rooster has already kissed the Blarney Stone….”

First time to the ROI, and had to be Dublin.  We had a lovely hotel but a rough old hire car

We castled, drank Guinness and had a fabulous time.  Would love to go back at some point.

16th Jul ~ 20th Jul 2018

Centre Parcs

“Crazy fun and some family golf...”

To celebrate Jasa’s 17th birthday she wanted the four of us to go to Centre Parcs up in the Elveden Forest Norfolk.

We had an adventure including bowling, boating crazy gold and the infamous Segway W?&#!er incident.

21st Jun ~ 26th Jun 2018

Turkey

“Gobble Gobble, but it ‘aint Christmas”

A weeks stay in Belek Turkey.  Our first beach holiday.

It was a good adventure with some lovely restaurants in the complex, and a few trips out including a pirate ship cruise and to the local Hammam.

We stayed at the Cornelea Deluxe Beach resort located right on the coast

10th Mar ~ 11th Mar 2018

Copenhagen

“It was wonderful wonderful…”

Shortly after we met Rooster and Cola decided to book a short trip to Copenhagen, S C A R Y times.

As Rooster would soon find out, Cola planned everything,  it was cold cold cold but we made the most of a very short trip
