Situated on the south coast of England, Christchurch is a historic market and fishing town nestled on the eastern edge of Dorset, where the tranquil rivers Avon and Stour meet. Steeped in history, the town was originally founded by Saxon settlers in the 7th century and named Twynham, meaning “between two rivers”. Its name changed in 1094 following the establishment of its most famous landmark, the majestic Christchurch Priory. As one of the longest parish churches in England, the Priory boasts an extraordinary blend of Norman and Gothic architecture. It remains famous for its legendary “Miraculous Beam” and an impressive clock tower that offers panoramic views of the coast.

Adjacent to the high street sit the atmospheric ruins of the 12th-century Christchurch Castle and the Norman House. The latter features the oldest surviving Norman chimney in Britain. Beyond its medieval roots, Christchurch has a colorful maritime past, serving as a notorious hotspot for smugglers during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Today, the town seamlessly blends its historic character with a relaxed, waterside lifestyle. The vibrant Town Quay acts as a central hub for walking, dining, and open-air events. From here, a sprawling natural harbor hosts endless boating, kayaking, and windsurfing activities. Local ferries connect the quay to the popular Mudeford Sandbank—celebrated for its pristine beaches and iconic, brightly colored beach huts—and Mudeford Quay, which still operates as a traditional, working fishing community.
